Steve Versteegen
Principal of Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School.
Biography
I am Steve Versteegen and am current Principal of Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School. I have had a connection with the Parish over many years through my parents John and Lucy and my siblings who attended the school in the 1970’s. Both parents were committed members of the Parish up until my father passed away ten years ago and my mother moved to an aged care facility. My Father John Versteegen worked with other parishioners on church/school maintenance particularly anything electrical! My mother Lucy was on the reading and cleaning rosters regularly attending mass and parish activities.
My first appointment as Principal was to St Brigid’s Bridgetown where my three children were born. Eleven years later I was appointed Principal at St Thomas More in Margaret River. Twelve years serving that school and Parish, I was then successful in securing a position at Holy Spirit School on my return to the city in 2010. Working in country communities on Parish councils was challenging but extremely rewarding working with different priests and bishops.
I had known our foundation priest here at Holy Spirit Fr Tom Phelan very well and worked with his successor, Fr Don Kettle on my appointment and a few years beyond. I have joined the Holy Spirit Parish Council to represent the school and to work with Fr Emmanuel now and into the future.
